St. Norbert College picks Strawberry Fields Design founder Addie Sorbo to Teach Graphic Design Classes

GREEN BAY, WI – St. Norbert College has picked Strawberry Fields Design founder Addie Sorbo to be Adjunct Instructor of Art. Sorbo is teaching two 300 level courses during the Spring 2008 semester: Computer Graphics and Advertising Design.

Sorbo is excited to share her experiences with the graphic arts students: “I’ve been able to give ‘real world’ lessons thanks to my experience working as an in-house graphic designer at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts, as a freelance designer, and now as owner of Strawberry Fields Design, Inc.”

“The goal of the Computer Graphics course is for students to learn and become proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop,” Sorbo explained. The course is a prerequisite for Advertising Design; the other course she is teaching.

Sorbo said that once students are proficient in the core software applications of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, they then move into the Advertising Design course: “The goal in Advertising Design is for students to learn about graphic design as a career and learn QuarkXPress.”

She further explained: “My Advertising Design students learn about working with clients—both the easy and difficult ones—the importance of contracts, how to inspire creativity and generate ideas, how to find clients, how to work with printers, and how to present their ideas and work.”

Sorbo added she wants her students to also think about designing for the future. “I want them to realize that it is their responsibility to ‘think green’. They learn that it’s a challenge to design something wonderful, but an even greater challenge to do it while reducing waste and reducing consumption of natural resources, or by creating a secondary use for the final product.”

“It’s fun watching my students grow as designers and creative thinkers, and it’s rewarding to know that I was able to help influence them.”
